What is an electric hoist? How does it work?

It is a type of lifting equipment that can be installed on overhead cranes, gantry cranes,or similar supporting structures. It is used in factories, warehouses, docks, and other locations to hoist goods, facilitating their movement and transportation.
Mechanical composition: It consists of an electric motor,a transmission mechanism, and a drum or sprocket. The motor converts electrical energy into kinetic energy, which drives the drum or sprocket to rotate via the transmission mechanism. This rotation lifts or lowers the wire rope or chain, enabling the lifting and hauling of goods.
Main classifications:Electric hoists are primarily classified into chain hoists and wire rope hoists.
Subcategories of chain hoists:low headroom hoists,synchronized hoists,cleanroom hoists,and explosion-proof hoists.
Subcategories of wire rope hoists: overhead crane-specific wire rope hoists, mini electric hoists, electric winches, and multi-purpose lifters.
Features of Wire rope electric hoists and chain electric hoists:
Wire rope electric hoists:Composed of a motor, transmission mechanism, and drum, they can be categorized into three types based on the relative positioning of the motor and drum axes :
1.Perpendicular aces:The drum axis is perpendicular to the motor axis. This design results in a bulky and heavy structure and has been gradually phased out of the modern market.
2.Parallel axes:The drum axis is parallel to the motor axis. This configuration minimizes lateral length but increases width, making it suitable for applications requiring ample horizontal space.
3.Coaxial alignment:The drum axis aligns with the motor axis(coaxial design). This layout reduces width but extends lateral length, ideal for narrow and elongated workspaces.
Wire rope hoists:These hoists lift and lower loads by winding steel wire ropes, reducing labor intensity and improving work efficiency.Their advantages include high versatility and relatively lower cost compared to chain hoists of the same specifications.
Disadvantages:During the winding process, friction between the wire ropes generates significant noise.Additionally, the wire ropes are prone to wear and tear, resulting in a shorter service life, thus requiring regular replacement.
Chain electric hoists:Composed of a motor, transmission mechanism, and sprocket, these hoists are categorized into four main types based on workspace requirements and operational needs:
1.Low headroom hoists:designed for spaces with limited vertical clearance, ideal for compact work environments.
2.Explosion-proof hoists:Engineered for hazardous areas such as flammable material storage facilities.
3.Cleanroom hoists:Constructed with contamination-resistant materials, suitable for sterile environments like food processing or pharmaceutical workshops.
4.Synchronized hoists:Enable coordinated lifting/lowering of multiple hoists simultaneously, commonly used in large-scale construction projects.
Application fields:Lifting and hauling, loading and unloading cargo, installation and relocation of steel structures and mechanical equipment, construction projects, bridge construction, shipbuilding and marine power systems, automotive manufacturing, metallurgy, mining, and mine shaft maintenance and safety.
